In 2005 he obtained the PhD in Materials Science: Nanosctructured Materials. In 2008 he became Assistant Professor in Experimental Physics at the Università di Milano Bicocca working at the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences, where in 2017 he gained a position of Associate Professor.
